A Blackburn nursery has retained its Good rating following a recent Ofsted inspection, which noted children’s happiness and politeness.

Shining Stars, based in Randal Street, was visited by inspectors in July, and it was rated good in all areas by Ofsted.

In the inspection, Ofsted said: “Children enjoy attending this warm and welcoming nursery.

“They form secure attachments with staff who offer cuddles and reassurance when needed. Children demonstrate that they feel safe and secure.

“They are polite and use good manners as they play co-operatively together. Older children show kindness and concern for one another as they play alongside their younger friends.”

The report noted how staff have good knowledge of children’s interests, and learning is set up on an individual basis to keep children focused.

There is a particular focus on physical skills, such as climbing and balancing, and other skills like making dough.

Communication was also highlighted as a strength, with inspectors adding: “There is a strong focus on supporting children's communication and language development.

“Staff provide a narrative as children play, which helps to ensure that children hear a rich variety of vocabulary.

“Staff encourage children to sing songs and rhymes, which further promotes their language skills.”

Visits to libraries and the park were also praised for helping children learn about the world around them and prepare for life.

Independence and self-care, as well as knowledge of healthy lifestyles and eating, are also a strength.

Leadership, headed by manager Abeda Gangat, were also complimented for their continuous self-evaluation and for emphasis on increasing staff knowledge and training opportunities, and for implementing effective safeguarding procedures.

To become Outstanding, the nursery was told to “strengthen staff's questioning skills so that they consistently give children more time to think and respond, to help develop their speech and language skills even further”, and to “implement plans to extend the range of opportunities and experiences available to support those children who prefer to learn outside”.

The report added: “Leaders recognise that the outdoor area requires development to fully support those children that prefer to learn outside.

“They have devised plans to enhance this area and the outdoor curriculum.”

Ms Gangat said: "I am  thrilled with the results of our recent Ofsted inspection and the positive feedback from the inspector.

"My heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff for their pivotal role in achieving this outcome. Together, we've crafted an environment where children thrive, learn, and develop life skills.

"We're especially proud of the recognition for personal development and behaviour.

"Our focus on communication and language has also been highlighted as a strength, reinforcing our commitment to the best start for our children.

"As we celebrate our result we remain committed to continuous improvement. Our leadership will enhance care and education, ensuring our Shining Stars Nurseries continue to improve and grow.

"Once again, thank you to our staff, families, and the entire community for their unwavering support. We look forward to continuing this journey together."
